Tuc der Ome EA3/LL-080 and Mauberme EA3/LL-021
The hike begins at Bocard d'Eylie, situated at 950 meters, with access to the Urets cabin via the GRT trail, which leads to Spain through the Port d'Urets. From there, the route heads west, following the contour line almost flat, then turns south, climbing steeply. Cairns mark the way to the highest peak in the Couserans, reaching 2880 meters. This stunning high-mountain trek traverses all alpine zones, offering a glimpse into the area's rich history, shaped by pastoral and mining activities.
The backpack is heavy, but I feel good, and despite a snow shower on the way up, I quickly reach the incredible Cabane of Port d'Urets. After dropping most of my bivy gear, I continue on to Tuc der Ome to catch the evening sunset and activate. The view is breathtaking up there, though the wind forces me to set up just below the summit for the activation.
The evening at the cabane is magical.
Sleeping is difficult on the narrow benches, but the solitude in this vast, mineral world is something to savor. After a quick breakfast, I set off toward Maubermé. The final stretch below the summit is tricky and very icy, but the effort is well worth it, with views that are absolutely stunning.
