Pic de Hourgade F/PE-335
The Hourgade summit is often overshadowed by the surrounding 3000-meter peaks, but reaching it requires a long and challenging hike. With its wild scenery and stunning vistas, it's a great experience for those who appreciate solitude and expansive landscapes. The trail is enhanced by the presence of lakes, streams, and waterfalls.
Thanks to my motorcycle, I make my way up to the ski resort restaurant at 1800 meters. The weather is pleasant, and the trail starts off quite long, leading to the first slopes of Couret d'Esquierry. After navigating a small but very slippery cliff, I reach Lac Nère, with its beautiful, vibrant colors.
Along the way, I have a brief encounter with the only person I’ll meet all day—a shepherd who has lost three of his sheep. From there, I continue to one of the highest lakes in the Pyrenees, Lac des Hermitants, at 2800 meters. The weather begins to change, with clouds moving in, leaving me uncertain about whether to continue. After a quick snack, I decide to press on. I make one last effort on the easy but exposed ridge and finally reach the summit. Just for a moment, a small gap in the clouds offers a view of the Luchonnais and Lac de Caillauas.
I quickly activate below the summit, now surrounded by clouds.
